This Minecraft tutorial explains all about allays with screenshots and step-by-step instructions. Let’s learn about allays in Minecraft.
Background
The allay is a new mob that was introduced in the Wild Update. The allay looks a lot like the vex, but is passive and blue in color. The following is a picture of what an allay looks like in Minecraft:

Special Skills
An allay will collect all of the surrounding items that matches the item it is holding.
An allay will like a player who hands it an item and will bring the items it collects to its liked player.
Hostility Level (Passive)
An allay is a passive mob. The term mob is short for mobile and is used to refer to all living, moving creatures in the game such as chickens, creepers, and allays. Because an allay is a passive mob, it will never attack you in the game (Creative or Survival mode).
Health Points
In Minecraft, an allay has 10 hearts for health. This gives an allay 20 health points (because 1 heart = 2 health points). To kill an allay, you need to inflict 20 points of damage to the allay.
Where to Find Allays
In Minecraft, you can find allays in Woodland Mansions and Pillager Outposts. The Woodland Mansion is found in the Dark Forest biome and the Pillager Outpost generates near a village, so it can appear in any biome that a village can.

Pillager Outpost
Allays spawn naturally in groups of between 1 to 3 and are usually found trapped in small jail cells or wooden cages.
Jail Cells in Woodland Mansion
Within the Woodland Mansion, you can find allays trapped within jail cells made of cobblestone that have a cauldron, brown carpet, and an iron door.
Wooden Cages in Pillager Outpost
Outside the Pillager Outpost, allays can be found in wooden cages made out of dark oak fence, dark oak logs, and dark oak stairs (similar to iron golems).
If you are having trouble finding an allay, you can summon an allay using a cheat or you can use a spawn egg.
Weapon
An allay does not carry a weapon.
Attack Method
You are safe to walk near an allay and it will not attack or cause you any damage. And if you attack an allay, it will just stay there. It will not attack you back.
Behavior
The allay has the following behavior in Minecraft:
An allay can hold an item (and can carry up to a stack at a time).
An allay will collect all of the surrounding items that matches the item it is holding.
A player can hand an item to an allay to hold (by using the item on the allay). This player then becomes “liked” by the allay and the allay will bring the items it collects to its liked player. The allay will follow its liked player up to a distance of 64 blocks away.
If an allay hears a note block play, that note block will become the allay’s favorite note block for 30 seconds. The allay will stay near that note block for the 30 seconds and bring its collected items to the favorite note block instead of the liked player. You can place wool in between the note block and allay to block this behavior, so that the allay continues to bring the items to the liked player instead of the favorite note block.
You can remove the item that an allay is holding by interacting with the allay (ie: use with an empty hand).
While an allay is holding an item, it can not take damage from its liked player. You must remove the item that an allay is holding before the liked player can damage the allay.
Drops
When you kill an allay in Minecraft, it will not drop anything. It is one of the few mobs that when killed, does not drop any items.
Experience Points
As you play the game, you will gain experience. The most common way to gain experience is by killing mobs. When a mob is killed you will see tiny green and yellow balls appear and move towards you.
Spawn Egg for Allay
You can spawn an allay using the following spawn egg:
