This Minecraft tutorial explains how to craft a carrot with screenshots and step-by-step instructions.
In Minecraft, a carrot is a food item that you can not make with a crafting table or furnace. Instead, you need to find and gather this item in the game.
Let’s explore how to add a carrot to your inventory.

How to get a Carrot in Survival Mode
There are 2 ways to add a carrot to your inventory in Survival mode.
1. Find a Village
In Minecraft, you can add a carrot to your inventory by finding a village and harvesting the carrots from a garden. So, let’s get started!
Villages are found in different biomes in Minecraft. Here is an example of what some of the villages look like:
Plains Village
Desert Village
Once you’ve found a village, look for the gardens in the village. It is within the gardens that you will find rows of carrots to dig up.
The game control to dig up the carrot depends on the version of Minecraft:
For Java Edition (PC/Mac), left click and hold on the carrot plants.
For Pocket Edition (PE), you tap and hold on the carrot plants.
For Xbox 360 and Xbox One, press and hold the RT button on the Xbox controller.
For PS3 and PS4, press and hold the R2 button on the PS controller.
For Wii U, press and hold the ZR button on the gamepad.
For Nintendo Switch, press and hold the ZR button on the controller.
For Windows 10 Edition, left click and hold on the carrot plants.
For Education Edition, left click and hold on the carrot plants.
The carrot plant will break and a smaller carrot will float on the ground. Make sure you pick up the carrot before it disappears.
Once you pick up the carrot, it will appear in your hotbar.
A carrot is a useful item and should be kept in your inventory to be used later.
2. Find and Kill a Zombie
You sometimes get a carrot in Minecraft by killing a zombie, so you need to find a zombie to kill. You can find zombies in most Overworld biomes in light levels of 7 or less. Zombies will spawn in the dark, usually at night.
When you attack the zombie, it will turn pink as it takes damage.
Continue to chase and attack the zombie. Once you have killed the zombie, it can drop items such as rotten flesh, carrots, or potatoes.
Make sure you pick up the dropped items before they disappear. In this example, rotten flesh was dropped when we killed the zombie.
The zombie could also have dropped carrots or potatoes.
Rotten flesh, carrots, and potatoes are items that you can keep in your inventory to be used later.
