This Minecraft tutorial explains how to craft a dead horn coral block with screenshots and step-by-step instructions.

In Minecraft, a dead horn coral block is an item that you can not make with a crafting table or furnace. Instead, you need to find and gather this item in the game.

Let’s explore how to add a dead horn coral block to your inventory.

Where to find a Dead Horn Coral Block in Creative Mode

Minecraft Java Edition (PC/Mac)

Here is where you can find a dead horn coral block in the Creative Inventory menu:

Platform Version(s) Creative Menu Location
Java Edition (PC/Mac) 1.13 – 1.19
Java Edition (PC/Mac) 1.19.3 – 1.19.4
  • Platform is the platform that applies.
  • Version(s) is the Minecraft version numbers where the item can be found in the menu location listed (we have tested and confirmed this version number).
  • Creative Menu Location is the location of the item in the Creative Inventory menu.

How to get a Dead Horn Coral Block in Survival Mode

You can add a dead horn coral block to your inventory in Survival mode by finding living Horn Coral Blocks growing in a Warm Ocean biome and mining them with a pickaxe. So, let’s get started!

1. Find a Horn Coral Block

First, you need to find a horn coral block in your Minecraft world. A horn coral block is a yellow coral that is usually found growing underwater in a Coral Reef in the Warm Ocean biome.

This is what a horn coral block looks like:

2. Hold a Pickaxe

To mine a horn coral block, you need to dig up the horn coral block with a pickaxe. These are the pickaxes you can choose from.

If you try to mine the horn coral block with your hand or other tool (that is not a pickaxe), the small block of dead horn coral will not appear. And you will not be able to add the dead horn coral block to your inventory.

In this example, we are going to use a diamond pickaxe to mine the horn coral block.

3. Mine the Horn Coral Block

The game control to mine the horn coral block depends on the version of Minecraft:

  • For Java Edition (PC/Mac), left click and hold on the horn coral block.
  • For Pocket Edition (PE), you tap and hold on the horn coral block.
  • For Xbox 360 and Xbox One, press and hold the RT button on the Xbox controller.
  • For PS3 and PS4, press and hold the R2 button on the PS controller.
  • For Wii U, press and hold the ZR button on the gamepad.
  • For Nintendo Switch, press and hold the ZR button on the controller.
  • For Windows 10 Edition, left click and hold on the horn coral block.
  • For Education Edition, left click and hold on the horn coral block.

You will need to continue to mine until the horn coral block breaks and a smaller dead horn coral block appears floating in the water. If you wait too long, the dead horn coral block will float to the top of the water.

TIP: Normally when you mine a horn coral block, you will get a dead horn coral block. However, when you mine the horn coral block using a pickaxe enchanted with Silk Touch, you will get the living horn coral block itself as a drop.

4. Pick up the Dead Horn Coral Block

Make sure you pick up the dead horn coral block before it disappears.

Once you pick up the dead horn coral block, it will appear in your hotbar.

A dead horn coral block is a useful item and should be kept in your inventory to be used later.

Minecraft Java Edition (PC/Mac)

In Minecraft, a dead horn coral block has the following Name, ID and DataValue:
