Time Command

Time Command in Minecraft Java Edition (PC/Mac)

In Minecraft Java Edition (PC/Mac), there are different syntaxes depending on what you would like to do with the World’s game time.

To add time to the game time (increasing the age of the world):

/time add <time>

To query the time:

/time query <day¦daytime¦gametime>

To set the time to the specified time:

/time set <setValue>
  • time is the amount of time (in game ticks) to add to the game time for the current Minecraft world. This increases the age of the Minecraft world.
  • day is the number of days elapsed in the game (each day is 24000 game ticks).
  • daytime is the number of game ticks since dawn
  • gametime is the age of the Minecraft world in game ticks
  • setValue is the time that you want to change to. It can be one of the following:
    setValue Description
day Sets the time to day (day=1000)
midnight Sets the time to midnight (available starting in 1.13)
night Sets the time to night (night=13000)
noon Sets the time to noon (available starting in 1.13)
<number> Sets the time to the number specified (0=dawn, day=1000, night=13000 and so on)

How to Enter the Command

1. Open the Chat Window

The easiest way to run a command in Minecraft is within the chat window. The game control to open the chat window depends on the version of Minecraft:

  • For Java Edition (PC/Mac), press the T key to open the chat window.
  • For Pocket Edition (PE), tap on the chat button  at the top of the screen.
  • For Xbox One, press the D-Pad (right)  on the controller.
  • For PS4, press the D-Pad (right)  on the controller.
  • For Nintendo Switch, press the right arrow button  on the controller.
  • For Windows 10 Edition, press the T key to open the chat window.
  • For Education Edition, press the T key to open the chat window.

2. Type the Command

In this example, we will set the time to day with the following command:

/time set day

Type the command in the chat window. As you are typing, you will see the command appear in the lower left corner of the game window. Press the Enter key to run the command.

Once the cheat has been entered, the game will return to daytime:

You will see the message “Set the time to 1000” appear in the lower left corner of the game window. This will reset the time on the Minecraft game to 1000 which turns the game to day.

TIP: After you have set the time to day, use the stop time command so that it is always daytime! You can then restart time whenever you want!

Congratulations, you have learned how to use the /time command in Minecraft.
