This Minecraft tutorial explains how to craft a lead with screenshots and step-by-step instructions.
In Minecraft, a lead is a handy tool that can be used as a leash. A player can tie a lead to a mob and then move the mob. The other end of the lead can also be tied to a fence to keep the mob from running away.
Let’s explore how to make a lead.

4 Strings 1 Slimeball
How to craft a Lead in Survival Mode
1. Open the Crafting Menu
First, open your crafting table so that you have the 3×3 crafting grid that looks like this:
2. Add Items to make a Lead
In the crafting menu, you should see a crafting area that is made up of a 3×3 crafting grid. To make a lead, place 4 string and 1 slimeball in the 3×3 crafting grid.
When making a lead, it is important that the strings and slimeball are placed in the exact pattern as the image below. In the first row, there should be 1 string in the first box and 1 string in the second box. In the second row, there should be 1 string in the first box, and 1 slimeball in the second box. In the third row, there should be 1 string in the third box. This is the Minecraft crafting recipe for a lead.
Now that you have filled the crafting area with the correct pattern, the lead will appear in the box to the right.
3. Move the Lead to Inventory
Once you have crafted leads, you need to move the new item to your inventory.
Congratulations, you have made a lead in Minecraft!
