Minecraft 1.21.6 Snapshot 25w16a for the summer 2025 drop is now available in your launcher. This snapshot introduces several new features and changes, focusing on lead mechanics and other improvements. Leads gain new mechanics that allow entities to be linked together. This makes it possible to traverse a desert with your own caravan of camels or to transport villagers in a boat attached to a cheerful Ghast.

Features:

New Lead Mechanics:

  • Players can now use leads to connect entities to each other, not just to fences or fixed blocks. This allows for creating entity chains, for example:
    • Forming a camel caravan while traveling through the desert.
    • Attaching a boat carrying villagers to a Happy Ghast for air transport.
  • Leads can also tether entities to moving objects like boats, enabling more creative gameplay possibilities.

Elytra Changes:

  • While gliding with an Elytra, using a firework rocket now only provides a boost, even if the firework is placed on a block. This improves the flying experience and prevents unintended behavior.

Improved Cloud Rendering:

  • Clouds now extend to the horizon, creating a more immersive and realistic visual experience when flying or exploring the world.

Cancellation of MC-101556 Fix:

  • Mojang has reversed a fix related to the teleportation range of Nether Portals due to unintended issues. This bug caused the teleportation range to match a full block, and after consideration, Mojang decided to retain the current mechanics to avoid disrupting community-used features.

Bug Fixes:

  • The snapshot includes several bug fixes, such as:
    • Fixed minecart behavior when passing through Nether Portals (MC-295895).
    • Corrected incorrect color display for potions, tipped arrows, and dyed leather armor in the inventory (MC-296353).
    • Fixed text and user interface display issues (MC-296355, MC-296363).
    • Addressed Happy Ghast-related bugs, such as disconnection due to “flying” (MC-296366) or unstable movement when tethered to a fence (MC-296427).
