How to craft Packed Ice using a Crafting Table in Survival Mode
1. Open the Crafting Menu
First, open your crafting table so that you have the 3×3 crafting grid that looks like this:

In the crafting menu, you should see a crafting area that is made up of a 3×3 crafting grid. To make packed ice, place 9 ice in the 3×3 crafting grid.
When making packed ice, it is important that the ice are placed in the exact pattern as the image below. In the first row, there should be 3 ice. In the second row, there should be 3 ice. In the third row, there should be 3 ice. This is the Minecraft crafting recipe for packed ice.
Now that you have filled the crafting area with the correct pattern, packed ice will appear in the box to the right.
3. Move the Packed Ice to Inventory
Once you have crafted packed ice, you need to move the new item to your inventory.

You can add packed ice to your inventory in Survival mode by mining packed ice with a tool that has been enchanted with Silk Touch. So let’s get started!

3. Mine the Packed Ice
The game control to mine the packed ice depends on the version of Minecraft:
For Java Edition (PC/Mac), left click and hold on the packed ice.
For Pocket Edition (PE), you tap and hold on the packed ice.
For Xbox 360 and Xbox One, press and hold the RT button on the Xbox controller.
For PS3 and PS4, press and hold the R2 button on the PS controller.
For Wii U, press and hold the ZR button on the gamepad.
For Nintendo Switch, press and hold the ZR button on the controller.
For Windows 10 Edition, left click and hold on the packed ice.
For Education Edition, left click and hold on the packed ice.
The packed ice will break and a smaller block of packed ice will float on the ground.
TIP: Normally when you mine packed ice, the packed ice will shatter. However, when you mine the packed ice using a tool enchanted with Silk Touch, you will get the packed ice as a drop.
4. Pick up the Packed Ice
Make sure you pick up the packed ice before it disappears.
Once you pick up the packed ice, it will appear in your hotbar.
Packed ice is useful item and should be kept in your inventory to be used later.
