Protection Enchantments – Wiki Guide
This Minecraft tutorial explains the Protection enchantment with screenshots and step-by-step instructions.
Background
The Protection enchantment is a comprehensive protection against all types of damage such as damage from attacks, fire, lava, and falling.
You can add the Protection enchantment to any piece of armor such as helmets, chestplates, leggings or boots using an enchanting table, anvil, or game command. You will then need to wear the enchanted armor to gain the protection.
The maximum level for the Protection enchantment is Level 4. This means that you can enchant an item with up to Protection IV. The higher the level, the more powerful the enchantment.
TIP: Although the Protection enchantment is less effective than a specific enchantment such as Blast Protection or Projectile Protection, it will provide protection against everything at once.

Wear the Enchanted Armor
Once you have armor enchanted with Protection, you need to wear the enchanted armor. You will not gain the protection until the armor items are worn.
Move each of the armor items (helmet, chestplate, leggings, boots) with Protection from your inventory to your character’s armor boxes.
You will see your character’s appearance change as the armor is worn.
Now that you are wearing the enchanted armor with Protection, the amount of damage that you will take from attacks, fire, lava, and falling will be reduced.
Congratulations, you just learned all about the Protection enchantment in Minecraft.
