In Minecraft, a sculk catalyst is a new item that was introduced in the Wild Update. A sculk catalyst is a mysteriously, soul-emitting block found in the Ancient City in the Deep Dark biome. When a mob dies near a sculk catalyst, the mob will not drop its experience and an unknown process will consume blocks beneath the dying mob and turn them into sculk blocks.

A sculk catalyst is an item that you can not make with a crafting table or furnace. Instead, you need to find and gather this item in the game.

Where to find a Sculk Catalyst in Creative Mode

How to get a Sculk Catalyst in Survival Mode

You can add a sculk catalyst to your inventory in Survival mode by mining a sculk catalyst with a tool that has been enchanted with Silk Touch. So let’s get started!

1. Find a Sculk Catalyst

First, you need to find a sculk catalyst in your Minecraft world. A sculk catalyst is usually found in an Ancient City in the Deep Dark biome.

To mine the sculk catalyst, you will need to use a tool that has been enchanted with Silk Touch such as hoe, pickaxe, shovel, or axe:

3. Mine the Sculk Catalyst

The game control to mine the sculk catalyst depends on the version of Minecraft:

For Java Edition (PC/Mac), left click and hold on the sculk catalyst.
For Pocket Edition (PE), you tap and hold on the sculk catalyst.
For Xbox One, press and hold the RT button on the Xbox controller.

TIP #1: If you break the sculk catalyst with a Silk Touch tool, the sculk catalyst will be dropped (but no XP).

TIP #2: If you break the sculk catalyst without a Silk Touch tool, XP will be dropped (but no sculk catalyst).

4. Pick up the Sculk Catalyst

Make sure you pick up the sculk catalyst before it disappears.

Once you pick up the sculk catalyst, it will appear in your hotbar.

The sculk catalyst should be kept in your inventory to be used later.
