In Minecraft, a sculk vein is a new item that was introduced in the Wild Update. A sculk vein is found on the edge of sculk patches in the Deep Dark biome. The spreading of sculk veins causes other blocks to be replaced by sculk and sculk veins can spread underwater. Similar to glow lichen, a sculk vein can be placed in any orientation.

A sculk vein is an item that you can not make with a crafting table or furnace. Instead, you need to find and gather this item in the game.

Where to find a Sculk Vein in Creative Mode

How to get a Sculk Vein in Survival Mode

You can add a sculk vein to your inventory in Survival mode by mining a sculk vein with a tool that has been enchanted with Silk Touch. So let’s get started!

1. Find a Sculk Vein

First, you need to find a sculk vein in your Minecraft world. A sculk vein is usually found in the Deep Dark biome.

To mine the sculk vein, you will need to use a tool that has been enchanted with Silk Touch such as hoe, pickaxe, shovel, or axe:

The efficient tool for mining a sculk vein is the hoe. So in this example, we are going to use a diamond hoe that is enchanted with Silk Touch.

3. Mine the Sculk Vein

The game control to mine the sculk vein depends on the version of Minecraft:

For Java Edition (PC/Mac), left click and hold on the sculk vein.
For Pocket Edition (PE), you tap and hold on the sculk vein.
For Xbox One, press and hold the RT button on the Xbox controller.
For PS4, press and hold the R2 button on the PS controller.
For Nintendo Switch, press and hold the ZR button on the controller.
For Windows 10 Edition, left click and hold on the sculk vein.

The sculk vein will break and a smaller sculk vein will float on the ground.

TIP #1: If you break the sculk vein with a Silk Touch tool, the sculk vein will be dropped (but no XP).

TIP #2: If you break the sculk vein without a Silk Touch tool, XP will be dropped (but no sculk vein).

4. Pick up the Sculk Vein

Make sure you pick up the sculk vein before it disappears.

Once you pick up the sculk vein, it will appear in your hotbar.

The sculk vein should be kept in your inventory to be used later.
