Spyglasses are supposed to help players clearly see distant landscapes in a vanilla way. They are meant as a replacement for OptiFine’s zoom feature for players who do not use OptiFine. But spyglasses require the player to hold them in their hand to use. This means you will have to dedicate one of the nine available hotbar slots to hold the spyglass. Spyglass Binder Mod (1.21.1, 1.20.1) is here to make using the spyglass a lot more convenient. With this mod installed, players no longer have to dedicate a hotbar slot to use the spyglass. Instead, the spyglass simply needs to be somewhere in the player’s inventory and players can activate the spyglass using a configurable hotkey.
