This Minecraft tutorial explains how to craft a blue coral block called a Tube Coral Block with screenshots and step-by-step instructions.
In Minecraft, a tube coral block is an item that you can not make with a crafting table or furnace. Instead, you need to find and gather this item in the game. Gathering tube coral blocks is a bit tricky in Minecraft because you need to mine it with a pickaxe that is enchanted with Silk Touch.
Let’s explore how to add a tube coral block to your inventory.

How to get a Tube Coral Block in Survival Mode
You can add a tube coral block to your inventory in Survival mode by finding them growing in a Warm Ocean biome and mining them with a pickaxe with Silk Touch. So, let’s get started!
1. Find a Tube Coral Block
First, you need to find a tube coral block in your Minecraft world. A tube coral block is a blue coral that is usually found growing underwater in a Coral Reef in the Warm Ocean biome.
This is what a tube coral block looks like:
2. Hold a Pickaxe with Silk Touch
To mine a tube coral block, you need to dig up the tube coral block with a pickaxe with Silk Touch. These are the pickaxes you can choose from.

If you try to mine the tube coral block with your hand or other tool (that is not a pickaxe), the small block of tube coral will not appear. And you will not be able to add the tube coral block to your inventory.
In this example, we are going to use a diamond pickaxe that is enchanted with Silk Touch.
3. Mine the Tube Coral Block
The game control to mine the tube coral block depends on the version of Minecraft:
For Java Edition (PC/Mac), left click and hold on the tube coral block.
For Pocket Edition (PE), you tap and hold on the tube coral block.
For Xbox 360 and Xbox One, press and hold the RT button on the Xbox controller.
For PS3 and PS4, press and hold the R2 button on the PS controller.
For Wii U, press and hold the ZR button on the gamepad.
For Nintendo Switch, press and hold the ZR button on the controller.
For Windows 10 Edition, left click and hold on the tube coral block.
For Education Edition, left click and hold on the tube coral block.
You will need to continue to mine until the tube coral block breaks and a smaller tube coral block appears floating in the water. If you wait too long, the tube coral block will float to the top of the water.
TIP: Normally when you mine a tube coral block, you will get a dead tube coral block. However, when you mine the tube coral block using a pickaxe enchanted with Silk Touch, you will get the living tube coral block itself as a drop.
4. Pick up the Tube Coral Block
Make sure you pick up the tube coral block before it disappears.
Once you pick up the tube coral block, it will appear in your hotbar.
A tube coral block is a useful item and should be kept in your inventory to be used later.
